Treatment of Zinc and reuse of Industrial Effluent
A new factory producing automotive brake components being built in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) had a requirement to treat 6000 litres/hour of process water. Without intervention, the wash waters from the surface treatment lines would have been contaminated with an average 4 mg/l Zinc.
Scope
To produce an outline process design to reduce the Zinc levels from the surface treatment lines to less than 1 mg/l.
Solution
Brimac Environmental Services provided a complete turn key package that was assembled and tested in the UK before being shipped to site for commissioning. Brimac provided ongoing support and training for use of the new system.
Outcome
The system has met all the requirements for process capability while also enabling 80% of the process water to be recycled and the balance to be safely sent to drain. The local water authority has commented on the low water consumption of the factory and the effectiveness of the system. The bid was won on cost effectiveness and the simplicity of the operating system.
